We had a wonderful stay in your beautiful hotel and enjoyed meeting everyone who works there. The room and service were excellent. I have recorded it both inside and out on my video camera and so can remember easily how nice it is! We shall be pleased to recommend your hotel to anyone visiting Burma

I have only just returned from my travels in South East Asia which I have to say was a most interesting and fascinating trip and one which I will not forget. During my travels I stayed in many different hotels of different types and sizes, however, my stay at the Hotel by the Red Canal, although very short, was one of the most enjoyable. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the hotel, it being a very homely place and in particular I found all the staff very friendly and helpful and considerably better in this way than the other hotels I stayed at both in Yangoon and Bagan. I also liked the fact that all facilities were included in the hotel rate eg internet, massage etc. I would therefore certainly recommend your hotel to any other travellers to Mandalay.

very friendly staff, delightful room, attractive, slightly small pool, free internet and the best shower in Burma. The location is away from downtown(ie need transport to get anywhere)

Fantastic” MY TRAVEL STYLE: I hate business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences and I encourage you to view hotels I have stayed at and their respective reviews (by clicking on my name). LOCATION: Very good but most hotels should require a very inexpensive taxi (or equivalent) to get to most tourist sites. BEST WAY TO GET THERE: Paid US$18 for a taxi from airport. We think we were ripped off since the drivers banded together and knew we had no options there. Double check the hotel price for an airport transfer and consider booking with them. TYPE OF ROOM: Sham Suite. Saw all rooms and we liked the rooms that were on the side of the hotel that received sunlight. The best room is the room with the very small stream going by the outdoor patio. Didn’t like that this room is on the lower floor (prefer being high) but the balcony was much bigger and had chairs and a table, versus the shan suite that was high but had a bench on a balcony with no table. BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed is on the hard side but acceptable. Sheets are better than average. LIGHTING: Good in bedroom and excellent in bathroom. BATHROOM: Bathroom is really beautiful with beautiful wood floors and stones separating the shower from rest of the bathroom. TOILETRIES: Fine but liquids are placed in handmade reusable bottles, not disposables. CLEANLINESS: Entire hotel, room, and bathroom are very clean. A/C: Quickly and quietly gets the room very cold. CLOSET SPACE: Average size. QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Room is very quiet but lets way too much morning light even with the curtains closed. FOOD: Only ate breakfast, which is western style. Corn flakes, freshly cooked eggs, sausage, and fruits. Not buffet. TV/INTERNET: TV is on the small side but tons of English stations (satellite). Internet works in room (wired and wireless) at no charge. There are a few laptops available for internet use at $2/hr. Internet was down often (probably not the hotel’s fault). SERVICE: Excellent. Staff remembered our room number and just handed us our key when we walked in. They are very friendly and professional. COMMON AREA: Gorgeous plants, flowers surround the common area. Nice touches such as flowers floating in water in pots, fresh fruit brought to the room, etc. Pool is on the small side, is very clean and inviting. 2nd floor rooms have better views but lower floor rooms have better balconies and have the very small stream running by the room.

For Esther OertleDear EstherMy wife and I have returned from our enjoyable holiday in Myanmar, and I am writing to thank all the Diethelm staff with whom we came in contact. Not only did all our arrangements work according to plan, we also found that your guides were an interesting and well-informed group, who could not do enough to help us. In particular Myint Kyaw Thu in Bagan was an expert in the local history and excellent company. We shall certainly be using the services of Diethelm in the future.PS We stayed in the Hotel by the Red Canal in Mandalay, a hotel which we recommend you add to your listing. It is a small and friendly hotel, with young staff who are extremely obliging, and it offers an alternative to the more formal atmosphere of hotels like the Sedona.BRIAN PRINGLEbpringle1a@iinet.net.au

We just have spent 3 nights in that wonderful, well kept hotel. But was most outstanding was the services rendered. It was the best choice on our Myanmar trip. We just loved the facilities, the situation in that residential area and the loveable personal who just read all our wishes from our lips! Simply extraordinary. We can only highly recommend it. One other advantage is that it has only 25 rooms so the groups never will be encountered in this individual hotel!

Very many thanks for your nice letter and your generosity during our stay in your very nice hotel in November. Your hotel has a lot to offer - the gardens are pleasant and the ambience in general is quite traditional and maintains excellent decorum of the needed to know Myanmar. Your staff is exemplary in their attitude and abilities and the hospitality towards food and service were excellent. If I had a complaint it is that the TV system was a little complicated as advanced is the technology! But the Wi-fi in your hotel more than compensated for these problems! We have added you to our website and you can see here: http://www.goldenpagodatravel.com/hotels_in_Myanmar.htm#Mandalay .

The rooms are very nice. The grounds are beautiful. I spent several hours sitting on the veranda, drinking a beer and relaxing. The staff is proficient in English, very friendly and always helpful. Coming to the hotel after a day in the dusty streets of Mandalay feels like arriving at a beautiful oasis after a long caravan journey across the desert. The undependable electricity in Burma causes this hotel (as well as all others in Mandalay) to depend on back up generators. Sometimes the switching of electricity to the generator when the city power goes out can cause issues with the hot water and the satellite TV, but this is not really the fault of the hotel, and the staff are quick to address these issues when they arise. I go to Mandalay every two years and plan to stay at the Hotel at The Red Canal from now on.

We recently stayed at the Red Canal Hotel in Mandalay and this was one our best experiences in Myanmar. This hotel with international comfort has a human size. The warm welcoming by the guest relations was really wonderful. The rooms are very very clean and the beds were the best we ever had! Worthwhile to mention: the access to the internet is free of charge for the residents 24h/24h. If you plan to stay in Mandalay, in a quiet hotel, you should really contact the Red Canal Hotel. www.hotelredcanal.com

I've stayed 3 nights in Mandalay at the Hotel by the Red Canal in June 2007 on my way to Bagan and hotly recommand this hotel to any fellow travelers. This is a new small design boutique hotel walking distance to the market, with very confortable rooms, a small balcony with a pool view, the service is very friendly and helpful, Gro can speeks french and you can also oder meals. You can rent a bike to visit mandalay highlights and do the boat trip to Mingun, rent a car to Sagain and finish the day by sunset on the U Bein teck Bridge at Amanapura.

L'hotel Red Canal a ouvert cet année .

We made our booking direct with the hotel... Actually at the time we booked this new hotel had not opened... We booked a room at the mandalay view in.... Had read about their new hotel about to be opened and did ask about it... But as far as we were concerned the booking were with the old hotel... Needless to say that we were pretty happy about being "upgraded".... Just tell them the dates that you want... the type of room you need.. We did give credit card details via e-mail... But paid cash (USD)... as they charge a credit card fee... Technically credit cards can not be used in Myanmar due to the trade embargo.... All the rooms are splendid.. with teak wood floors and furniture... . The ones with the balcomy overlooking the garden and pool area are nice. Some on the ground floor have a small garden/outdoor shower.. But are a little dark for my liking.. this would be great for sleeping in I suppose. T he ones near the street have a little trafic noice.. It's really only a few cars and moterbikes.... but if you are a light sleeper go for the ones away from the street... if you look at the pic on the web page.. that would be the ones to the left. Each room or suite is a little different... Some are larger but all are nicely furnished with wonderful beds.. not easy to come by in S. E. Asia:-)

BY THE MANAGEMENT AT MANDALAY VIEW INN. WE HAD BOOKED THE LATTER PLACE AND WERE SOMEWHAT CONCERNED WHEN THE TAXI DROVE STRAIGHT PAST IT... ONLY TO BE GREETED BY SOME VERY NICE AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE OUTSIDE WHAT LOOKED LIKE AN OPULENT RESIDENCE..... IT HAD JUST OPENED - LATE DECEMBER - AND THEY HAD TRANSFERRED SOME OF THE GUESTS FROM THE MANDALAY VIEW INN TO THE RED CANAL. I CAN NOT SPEAK HIGHLY ENOUGH OF THE PLACE.... THE ROOMS ARE MAGNIFICENT..... THE SERVICE IMPECCABLE... I DID NOT GO INTO THE SEDONA WHILE WE WERE THERE... BUT DID CHECK OUT THE SAVOY IN YANGON.... WILL HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS PLACE IS EQUALLY GRAND.... AT A VERY REASONABLE RATE. IT IS WALKING DISTANCE TO THE PALACE... AND A COUPLE OF RESTAURANTS.... PERHAPS NOT AS HANDY TO OTHER SIGHTS AS THE MANDALAY VIEW INN.... BUT IT IS CLASSY. THANKS ASWIN FOR THE UPGRADE....

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel by the Red Canal. The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag our selves away from the hotel to go to the out side at all. Mandalay city is so hot we couldn't wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of the hotel. We stayed on the Chin suites with own wide balcony. Breakfast is a lovely continental spread with cheeses fruit pastries etc. The pool is lovely, not big but more luxurious. Our kids are 6 and 8 and they enjoyed it. The pool attendants were wonderful, laying out 3 towels per sun lounger, with one rolled up as a head rest. The waitress even came into the pool with a tray of smoothies for everyone to try. We paid $78 per night for a room which we thought excellent value. Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel in Mandalay
